Week in Review
Jun. 29th, 2006 11:33 amLet's see if I can't shake the cobwebs out of my noggin for this one; sadly I dun remember too much aside from the highlights, so here goes.
Thursday was a fun day at work. Our lab was treated to lunch by a visiting professor from Ireland (his last day in the States was this Monday). The group headed over to Maluken, a Japanese place, and I had a lunch box with beef teriyaki. This box was a bit bigger than what I expected; rice, salad, some small fried gyoza-like things (but it wasn't gyoza; these were somewhat spherical and had a different filling), pineapple pieces, an orange, 3 California rolls, and rice. Pretty tasty, but aside from having a large variety of goodies, was typical Japanese lunch box fare. I'll have to be brave next time and try something else.
Friday night Jen and I went out with Jane to the Upper Crust, and we had a good time just chatting it up and having a little bit to drink; I'm such a lightweight, though, and could barely stand after a whole pint of IPA were it not for teh food in my stomach. The pizza was our usual garlic/basil/diced tomatos combo, which Jane really liked. Jane had plans to go bowling afterwards, but Jen and I were too pooped to continue that night, so we called it in afterwards.
Saturday was busy-busy social day for us, as we first went to visit some of her LJ support friends (I fail at the life for forgetting their names :( However, we did get a rousing few games of Mario Kart Double Dash in, and Jen managed to discover the wonderful awesomenes of Karaoke Revolution (which I, too, discovered during my BME retreat). After a few hours hanging around there, we headed out to a barbeque my thesis advisor was holding at his house in JP. Jen wasn't feeling too well, but otherwise we had a good time. The rain forced my advisor and his wife to grill the food inside, though, all of which was quite tasty. I didn't get a chance to sample everything, though, having nibbled quite a bit at the previous get together. Sunday was recover from lots of fun day, which we did by lazying around the house in the rain, playing some video games.
Monday and Tuesday were typical days of work, though we did manage to get to the gym on Tuesday. I was a bit upset that I couldn't keep up with my typical running regiment for the 25 minutes I'd alotted for myself; I'm going to try and force myself to go Monday, Wednesday, and Friday until I can really build up my stamina to a comfortable level, then switch Wed for some weightlifting, and possibly Friday for swimming instead of running. Aside from health and fitness reasons, I would love to be able to cosplay as Jecht at some point, and with him typically showing so much skin, I'd really like to look my best when I do it. Wednesday started out in typical form, but during the evening, I found that my presentation had corrupted when I saved it, so I had to work through some of the night to get it up to snuff again. Only got 5 hours of sleep, which probably reflected in my talk today. Nonetheless, I got really good feedback about it, and a rather sounding OK on the next phase of my experiments.
I'll probably call an early day today (5:45 or 6:00) so I can crash at home. I tried drinking an iced café con leche from Starbucks, but I think I'm immune to caffeine's effects, because I'm still as drowsy as I was when I woke up.
