Update - HOLY [censored]!
Jul. 31st, 2005 04:42 pm*cracks knuckles, reads* Huh, only a month. I think I've gone longer than that before without any substantial updates. Oh well. Jen's insisting that I be verbose, but most of my readers are also her friends, so I'm sure a lot of what I've to say would be repeated in her journal. At any rate, I'll be as verbose as I can.
Wedding: What can I say, it went wonderfully. Jen, of course, was ravishing in her dress, and I have to admit that I was a hot piece of work in my tuxedo, as well. The wedding took place in a Catholic church, so the ceremony involved three very lovely and poignant readings from the bible, as well as a few choice prayers said by the priest, ourselves, and our moms, as well, of course, as the exchanging of the rings. One thing that was no doubt foreign to many there was the presentation of 13 silver coins, or arras to Jen from myself; after a blessing, the priest hands them over to me, and I give them to Jen as a sign that I will provide for her and take care of her, and that I place my everlasting trust in her (yeah, it's a Hispanic thing). Very minor flubs in the program were corrected right before the ceremony, and though we forgot to do the prayer of the couple, the entire ceremony was perfect; I'm still not sure who was happier of the two of us at the end.
The reception was great. I love dancing, it seems, even if I can't do it well, and being around so many people that were also in the mood to party really got me energized to have a good time. What food Jen and I were able to eat was very good, and my brothers - as best men - gave a wonderful toast at the beginning that almost drove me to tears. Good music once we got to dancing, and I temporarily retired "The Fly-Swatter", an oft-embarrasing move I pull off at dances on occasion. After a few hours there, Jen and I retired to a nice hotel nearby, and that's all I've got to say about that.
Micro-Honeymoon: Jen and I went to New Orleans for a few days, and despite the unbearable heat, it was fun. First day, we toured around the French Quarter for a little while, then partook of the Aquarium and the Zoo. We'd had breakfast at the Cafe du Monde, and I got to eat a few beignets, which can best be described as an orgasm compressed into a fried dough-like thing covered with sugar: a mini-funnel cake, almost. Day Two involved our going to Six Flags, which was loads of fun. Again, it was a hot day, but we got to ride a few attractions. I couldn't go on too many coasters due to the fact that I was wearing sandals, though. After a while there, we took a short break in our hotel, then went to eat on the Riverwalk; I partook of crayfish, and though they're not too savory, the dish was pretty good. I think I'll stick to catfish for southern seafood next time.
Misc: Back to work, and I'm getting a slight reprieve in writing my grant proposal (Nov 5 instead of Aug 5) so that 1) a post-doc can submit his, instead (it's better to only send 1 per acceptance time) and 2) myself, my advisor, and another grad student are pushing to finish up a small paper to be submitted soon. So while I haven't been doing any experiments again, I have been pretty busy getting my data together.
Jen got two shinies over the past few weeks; the first was a blue DS with which she acquired Meteos and Zoo Keeper, and the second was a pink iPod Mini 6GB, which she insisted count as her birthday present from me. In return, she got me the Harvey Birdman Season 1 DVD and a card from Harvad Bookstore; now I have to go over there and pick something out for when I finish The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, so recommendations are welcome =D I also picked up a copy of Kirby and the Cursed Canvas, and though I beat it in about a week, there's a lot to do and unlock, so I'm still having a lot of fun with it.
