Hello my faithful viewers! Welcome to the first installment of Simple Meals with Dave (SMwD), wherein I provide easy-to-make recipes that you can try at home! It's so easy, a doctor of Biomedical Engineering can do it!

Today we bring you a simple take on an oldie (is it an oldie? Bah, let history decide that): the breakfast sammich. I'm sure you've encountered many variants in numerous fast-food establishments, but this one might take just a bit less time to receive and enjoy. It's also relatively cheap, as calculations toward the end will show.

Let's get started:

WTF?

The true opening to Metal Gear Solid 3 is TOTALLY a rip-off of a 007 James Bond opening.

C'mon, now, Konami :P

Most criticism of religion in Spore is from "militant atheists", claims Wright

I guess it just goes to show that you can be stupid regardless of your beliefs, or lack thereof :/

Kerri Walsh, US volleyball player in the Olympics, loses her wedding band during a match.

Volunteers find it in the sand after the match. There is much rejoicing.

Announcer before the US-Cuba match (8/11, ~9:15 PM EST): "Now why was that wedding band so important?"

Um. Because it's her WEDDING BAND? Yeah, there's a sweet, personal message on it, but does it REALLY matter? It's a symbol of the love she and her husband share! That should be all that matters.

Blargh. Just ticked me off a bit, is all :P

Ho-kay.

Normally I don't do politics here; I like to consider my posts somewhat light-hearted and not very polarizing.

However, I...I had to share this monumental stupid with those of you who follow this blog.

This little ditty comes from the Urban Legends Reference Pages; specifically, their latest entry as of 8/5/08. As are the brunt of their more recent entries, this is very likely an exact reproduction of the contents of one of those oh-so-fun chain letters that get sent around. I'll cut it - and the rant - in case none of you wants to get your blood a-boilin'.

Snip snip for some stupid far-right sentiment -_- )

Arrancars.

Viz' translation of Bleach uses this term to denote more than one "Arrancar", a type of being from said franchise.

"Arrancar" is also a Spanish word which means "to rip" or "to yank". Yet in Spanish, most - if not all - words that end in a consonant are pluralized by adding "-es" to the end, e.g., pulmones, corazones, refrigeradores, etc.

No real point to this post; just thought I'd bring to light my disconnect with this word, and how it's really tough to pronounce unless I force a non-Spanish accent when saying it :P

Calling out especially to my foreign friends. If anyone has a copy of Pokemon Diamond or Pearl that's originally in French, Spanish, Italian, German, or Japanese, let me know. I've recently learned that trading specific Pokemon in these languages to an English cart will unlock Pokedex entries for them in those languages, and so I'd love to trade for them to round out my collection. Thanks :D

Bad News: Payroll won't be able to get me a check advance until tomorrow at the earliest, Monday the latest.

Good News: I won ~$115 worth of groceries from Whole Foods for guessing the price of goods in a shopping cart. Yeah~

Also Good News: http://kotaku.com/5021337/an-elegant-stylus-for-a-more-civilized-age. Fuck Yes.

That is all :D

The person who was supposed to put you in the payroll system didn't as an oversight. It is being done right now and we will try to get you a check cut tomorrow or Wednesday.

First, I apologize to Jen for seemingly mocking your accent. I couldn't help it; when you bust it out the way you do, I can't help but imitate it, and it's not to insult you, I promise <3

Second, if you have Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, you should pick up My Pokemon Ranch for the Wii. At $10, it's a cute little storage system for your game(s) (though you cannot use it to quickly transfer Pokemon from one DS cart to another). Jen and I have been greatly amused by it, and I've had some fun trying to fill it up.

Running late, I decided to walk to school today (45+ min on the T, ~30 min walking).

Big mistake, as it's hot as hell outside.

I made it fine (not to dehydrated), but I can already tell that I got burned a bit.

At least tomorrow I can wear shorts if I decide to walk again :|

I finally discovered this cartoon I saw as a lad based on a VERY vague description of the ending: Unico in the Island of Magic, and that's when I realized it was an anime.

So Jen and I dug around Wikipedia, and were quite surprised to find out how much anime comprised our childhood TV viewing. For example, of the 19 shows listed as "1980s Nickelodeon Cartoons", 6 of them were originally Japanese cartoons (and a good handful of the rest were originally from other countries as well).

Just something to throw out there. I mean, I'm sure a lot of us remember Voltron, Speed Racer, and Robotech, but Noozles? Maple Town? Little Koala? Oh yeah, we became weeaboos far quicker than we'd thought XD

Ok.

So Jen and I decided to try our hand at some new things yesterday for dinner. You can check out each one by following the appropriate LJ cut:

Brawl Announcer: "SUCCESS!"
Audience: "YAAAAAH!"

a.k.a. I've passed my dissertation defense. The actual text needs a little tune-up, but it's in stellar condition otherwise.

Next stop: graduation, hooding, and bestowal of a particular title.

I WONDER WHAT IT COULD BE

Me: "Ok, so Book 3, Volume 3 - which contains episodes that have yet to air in the US - comes out May 6. TIME TO GET ON THE BALL."

[livejournal.com profile] jennifer: "Yeah, Nintendo, come..."

Both: "..." *laugh*

First off, have some codes:

Wii: 8759 3422 0858 5579
Super Smash Bros Brawl: 4253 3152 9910

Also bring it. The game is awesome so far; we're going through the Adventure mode slowly but surely, and now taking a break for foodz.

Also, Jen cracked. Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney is waiting patiently in her bag, ready to be played during the rare moments that SSBB is not.

Many a Christmas ago, I recall watching a commercial for the Sega Genesis and Game Gear. The kids told their dad to ask for that at the store, but he ended up playing a game of "Telephone" with himself as he saw other products around him, and so eventually he ended up in the wrong isle, asking for a "Mega Pegasus and Reindeer" instead. If anyone knows where I might find a video of this commercial, I'd appreciate it.
