Normally I don't do politics here; I like to consider my posts somewhat light-hearted and not very polarizing.

However, I...I had to share this monumental stupid with those of you who follow this blog.

This little ditty comes from the Urban Legends Reference Pages; specifically, their latest entry as of 8/5/08. As are the brunt of their more recent entries, this is very likely an exact reproduction of the contents of one of those oh-so-fun chain letters that get sent around. I'll cut it - and the rant - in case none of you wants to get your blood a-boilin'.

Tyson drops Labor Day holiday for Eid al-Fitr

You can bet that this action by Tyson is only the begining to removing more of the holidays and other symbols that made the United States of America the greatest country on earth.

Yeah, real special, huh? Stupid, far-right-wing rhetoric pulled out of nowhere, including the ever-popular "Obama = Muslim = Evil" sentiment none-too-subtly implied with the last sentence, even though Obama isn't mentioned in the summary at all. "For the sake of your families" indeed, because Heaven forbid a company wants to celebrate a particular religion's holidays -_-

I I know that a certain set of conservatives is not known for their impressive logic, but I don't get why this is a bad thing that Tyson is doing? It's okay for Christmas to be a paid holiday, but it's not okay to extend similar consideration to other religious groups? 21% of the workforce at this plant observes the holiday, after all.

So I'll be looking forward to getting this forwarded to me by my concerned conservative family :P

Sadly, so can I, and at least by two members of my family/friend group. Sad thing is that they are hardly what I'd call "right-wing extremist", yet they fall into this kind of propaganda far too easily -_-

What really got my hide chapped was clicking over to the Eid al Fitr link, which took me to the page on the postage stamps. Talking about the MUSLIM evildoings such as the WTC. Aside from the completely glaringly obvious logical fallacy (i.e. someone's affiliation with a group doesn't mean they are representative of the group), the intolerance is maddening. Frankly, there is no major religion that can afford to go around pointing fingers at other religions and saying "some of your adherents did bad things!" without being the pot calling the kettle black.

No kidding. It's quite convenient how some people so easily forget the Crusades -_-

You can't get rid of Labor Day! That's the day that Jesus defeated Osama bin Goblin to save the peasants who were wandering the desert to find the holy post Thanksgiving sale!

It's only the beginning! Before you know it, our other holidays might get corrupted! :O
